Throwing a Halloween Party on a Budget
Ask a friend to host the party with you. By sharing the work and the expenses, the out of pocket costs to host the party will be less for each of you.
Buy Party Supplies Online
Check out online stores for Halloween decorations and party supplies. Many online stores offer Halloween napkins, plates, invitations, and even decorations at discounted prices compared to traditional brick and mortar stores. If you are having a costume contest at the party, you can also purchase prizes online.
Send E-Mail Invitations
To save money on postage and invitations, send your invitation by email. If you are creative you can design your invitation and email it your friends. Another option is to use free online invitation service, such as Evite.com, to send out invitations and manage responses. If you have a friend who is not online you can call them to invite them to the party.
Have a Potluck Party
On the invitation ask each guest to bring their best Halloween food creation to share. You can even have a contest for the best treat to encourage creativity. You may want to find out what treats guests are bringing so that you don’t end up with 5 trays of ghost shaped rice crispy treats. If your guests need some inspiration for treats, send them to Family Fun Halloween Recipes.
Serve Desserts and Appetizers instead of a Meal
Plan the time of your party for afternoon or later in the evening. This elimates the expense of providing a meal and puts the emphasis on socializing and games instead of food.
Borrow Decorations
Check with friends and family members to see if you can borrow some of their Halloween decorations for your party. Be sure to label all decorations so you can return them to their owner.
Serve non-alcoholic beverages
Provide a fun Halloween punch and some sodas for your guests to drink. Alcoholic beverages can quickly add up when throwing a party. You can also designate your party B.Y.O.B.
